Project SummaryNew work by artists making in Crafts media.
The shape of things has it's own web site at www.theshapeofthings.org.uk.
The shape of things is a national initiative over four years providing bursaries to artists to make new craftwork. It explores the distinctive contribution artists make to influence or reflect national identity, the intercultural nature of British society and its connection with global cultures through a series of exhibitions, installations and professional development events. It is funded by Arts Council England.
Craftspace is the managing agency for the shape of things providing administrative support and playing a role on the steering group.
The second in the series of shape of things exhibitions opened at Bristol’s City Museum and Art Gallery on Saturday 6th February with work by Alinah Azadeh and Rosa Nguyen.
Alinah Azadeh has gathered 999 objects from members of the public, donated as a final farewell, to lay to rest a memory, experience or association that holds personal meaning to the giver. Combined together, the objects form ‘The Gifts’ an installation of these personal objects, wrapped and bound in yarn and fabric.
Rosa Nguyen’s ‘Still Living’ draws on Chinese glass and British ceramics as inspiration, curating and reinterpreting objects in the museum collections with new glass and ceramic installations. Rosa’s interests lie in the organic forms and the exhibition’s name ‘Still Living’ plays on the concept of still life.
The exhibition runs until Sunday 18th April
Exhibitions of work by artists awarded the shape of things bursaries will be held at partner venues over the next two years, click here to see the upcoming exhibition dates and artists.
