Braidwood School for the Deaf and contemporary felt maker Jamie Lewis worked with a mixed ability class of year seven pupils. The school was interested in finding innovative ways to develop their pupils’ skills as independent thinkers, creative enquirers and team workers as part of the Personal Learning and Thinking Skills initiative.
“The project has given the class the opportunity to bond and work together. It has been good for their team building, working in a relaxed way in changing groups, so they didn’t just working with their friends.”
Bev Blissett, Teaching Support & BSL Communicator Braidwood School
“I know that these sessions are being used to inspire English lessons. Instructional communications are being developed with the year seven and eight boys’ literacy group. This is an ideal opportunity for cross curricular learning.”
Keith Barlow, Assistant Head Teacher
Currently bidding for enterprise college status, Braidwood School felt this project was an ideal opportunity to see how their pupils would respond to the idea of creating craft products for market.
“We took our work to Moseley Art Market and asked members of the public what they thought of our work. That was an experience the pupils have never had before. It was a great source of pride. It was a great day.”
